The past eight weeks have been incredibly challenging. I found both courses to be quite demanding, requiring me to tap deeper into my creativity and critical thinking to elaborate more on assignments. I tend to prefer being direct and concise, but I realized that some professors value deeper personal insights and reflections in our work. This shift in expectations required me to adapt my writing style, which, at times, was difficult. Additionally, the volume of readings was overwhelming, especially while balancing my responsibilities as a single mother of three, working full-time, and still making time for myself. Retaining all the information for discussions and assignments was mentally exhausting. There were moments when I felt like I was drowning, and I even questioned whether I could keep going. However, quitting has never been an option for me. My parents raised me to persevere, and I firmly believe that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. At the end of the day, success is all about mindset and determination.
When I start a course, I immediately seek out classmates I have worked well with in the past. I usually create a GroupMe chat or continue using an existing one with familiar group members. Having this network has been incredibly beneficial. It provides a space where we can share thoughts, discuss improvements, and simply support each other through the challenges. Knowing that others are going through similar struggles and being able to express how I feel while being understood is something I truly appreciate. While I have worked well with all my group members, the two people I always look for first are Kelsie and Leah. Their feedback has been invaluable in helping me refine my work. I consider myself more of a math-oriented person—numbers and equations are my comfort zone. Writing, on the other hand, does not come as naturally to me, as I feel I express myself better through speaking. Because of this, I often seek feedback on my assignments, and Kelsie and Leah’s perspectives have allowed me to view my work differently and make necessary revisions. Their support, along with the guidance from my professors, has played a significant role in my growth.
Dr. G’s feedback, in particular, has helped me evolve as a student. Looking back at my portfolio from when I first started to where it is now, I can see a tremendous transformation. This journey has taught me that growth often comes from discomfort, and while these courses have tested my endurance, they have also strengthened my ability to adapt, collaborate, and push through challenges. The struggle has been real, but the progress has been worth it.
